📷 Youth Attachment Disorders

The Struggle to Trust and Connect

When a child has been abused, neglected, or separated from safe  caregivers, their ability to trust others — and even love themselves —  can be deeply damaged. Attachment disorders are not simply emotional  issues; they are relational wounds that affect how a  child gives and receives love, safety, and connection.

We know these wounds are real. And we know that  healing is possible — through stability, compassion, and faith.

🧠 What Are Attachment Disorders?

Attachment disorders occur when a child’s early emotional bonds with  caregivers are disrupted, unsafe, or nonexistent. Common types include:

Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD): Withdrawal, distrust, avoidance of comfort or affection

Dis inhibited Social Engagement Disorder (DSED): Inappropriate closeness with strangers, lack of boundaries

Insecure or Disorganized Attachment: Extreme fear, clinginess, or emotional confusion in relationships

⚠️ Warning Signs in Youth:

Avoidance of physical affection or eye contact

Extreme control issues or defiance

Difficulty forming friendships or trusting adults

Manipulative, aggressive, or overly compliant behavior

Lack of remorse, empathy, or emotional expression

Quick attachment to strangers with little caution
