📷 Youth Mood Disorders

When Emotions Feel Like Storms

Children and teens experience a wide range of emotions — but for some,  the highs are too high, and the lows run too deep. Mood disorders go  beyond typical ups and downs. They can affect how a young person thinks,  behaves, relates to others, and even sees themselves.

We the KC Grace family we recognize that mood disorders in youth are  often overlooked, misunderstood, or misdiagnosed. Our mission is to  bring awareness, support, and healing to young lives overwhelmed by  emotional turbulence.

🔄 What Are Mood Disorders?

Mood disorders are mental health conditions that cause persistent or extreme emotional states. These can include:

Major Depressive Disorder (persistent sadness, loss of interest)

Bipolar Disorder (intense mood swings between highs and lows)

Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD) (chronic anger and irritability)

Cyclothymic Disorder (milder but long-lasting bipolar symptoms)

⚠️ Warning Signs in Youth:

Sudden changes in energy or activity

Ongoing sadness, anger, or hopelessness

Self-harming behaviors or withdrawal

Explosive outbursts or emotional numbness

Difficulty in relationships or at school

Thoughts of self-harm or suicide

💛 Our Response at KC Grace:

✅ Early detection and referral to mental health professionals

✅ Faith-based mentorship and emotional guidance

✅ Safe spaces for self-expression and healing

✅ Parent and caregiver education workshops

✅ Support groups, peer connections, and crisis intervention

✅ Ongoing encouragement rooted in God’s love and grace

🕊️ “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18

We believe every child deserves to feel safe in  their emotions. With compassion, care, and Christ at the center, we’re  helping youth find balance, stability, and the strength to heal.
